Looking Into the Future

The immediate effects of forest fire outbreaks can overshadow other repercussions in the public view. Therefore we need to gain a more complete understanding of the consequences of global warming so that we can adequately address these challenges.

Animal populations are very adaptable and can often change their behaviour to adapt to the changing climate (5). However, many species will not be able to adapt well enough to prevent their decline or even extinction; it is these species that will need to be the foci of our conservation efforts.

In 2005, the government of Newfoundland and Labrador released an action plan for climate change. In summary, this plan aims to proactively help the population adapt to changes in climate in the future. This involves raising public awareness and helping industries minimize their negative impacts on the climate. This applies to a wide range of areas from transportation to forestry and wildlife.
